移動之美 The Moving Beauty
「齊柏林教我們從天空閱讀臺灣的壯麗，臺鐵帶我們用速度記憶臺灣的春夏秋冬。」
走過132個年頭，臺鐵跨越了所有臺灣人的童年記憶，從城市開往鄉村，從家鄉開向遠方，從未知踏上旅程，駛過臺灣四季，在列車裡的旅程像是一部快轉的電影，稻子時而金黃，時而翠綠；遠山有層疊也會迷濛，灰色也會染上蔚藍。這一道道窗外風光，構築了我們的鐵路記憶，也形成一幅「移動之美」。
本次臺鐵環島之星觀光列車改造計畫，除了期望翻轉臺鐵美學，更希望美學可以結合實用與功能性，融合臺灣文化與精神，體現臺灣自然、在地、樸質、人文以及共同記憶，重新建構記憶中那幅「移動之美」。我們捕捉臺灣在地色彩，體現「秋天的風」設計概念，臺灣高山秋天的橙紅，花蓮大理石的石紋，以及臺灣原住民工藝，Yuma Taru老師的作品《島嶼四季》，喚醒臺灣最樸質的美麗。外觀設計上，保留童年記憶裡莒光號的橘，再漆上大片沉穩的黑，希望能從視覺上，進入一場尊榮般的享受。
在這一場美學進化，臺鐵結合臺灣軟硬實力，企圖擺脫美學的形式束縛與過去框架；帶著臺鐵的老靈魂，與新一代的設計力，帶給臺灣的下一個旅程，將通往更美好的未來。
The Moving Beauty
“The late Taiwanese aerial photographer and director Chi Po-lin taught us how to appreciate Taiwan’s spectacular beauty from the sky; the Taiwan Railways Administration shows us how to remember Taiwan’s four seasons through speeds.”
With 132 years of history, the TRA is a collective childhood memory shared by most Taiwanese people. A train journey is like a fast-forward movie. The paddy fields could be golden or green, during different times of the year. Cascading mountain views can be blurry at times, or coming with a hue of blue in grey. The sights outside the window construct our memory of train journeys, creating the “moving beauty.”
Incorporating Taiwan’s culture and spirits, we hope to represent Taiwan’s natural, authentic, pristine, humanitarian, and shared memory, to reconstruct the “moving beauty” in our mind. Through capturing Taiwan’s local colors, such as orange-red on high mountains in the fall and the pattern of granite from Hualien, we present the design concept of “autumn winds.” The dyeing and weaving handicraft of the indigenous tribes, as demonstrated by Atayal artist Yuma Taru’s fiber creation “Island. Four Seasons”, reveals the simplistic beauty of Taiwan. The exterior design maintains the color of orange, as seen in the Chu-Kuang Express, as remembered in our childhood memory. The shade of black covers the exterior generously, waiting to invite passengers to a luxurious visual enjoyment.
With the old soul from the TRA and the design prowess of the new generation, we are bringing a better future for your next train journey in Taiwan.
